The 2nd project meeting was held in Madrid!

The 2nd project meeting was held in Madrid!

We are glad to announce that the 2nd Meeting of the BLAZETEC Project took place on February 27th, 2025, hosted in Madrid by our partner UPM. This M6-meeting is related to the first months of the project and brought together all partners for in-depth discussions and strategic collaboration.

During the meeting, we reviewed key updates and progress across various Work Packages (WP1, WP2, WP3, and WP5), addressed critical challenges, and defined the next steps for the project's development.

The meeting concluded with clear action points and timelines to ensure contionous progress. Partners shared essential updates, raised important concerns, and aligned on strategies to move forward efficiently, ensuring that all project objectives are met. In the near future, we will focus on finalizing deliverables, managing risks, and optimizing designs for the upcoming stages.

We look forward to sharing more updates as we continue working together toward the achievement of our goals!

First participations to communicate and disseminate about the project

On behalf of the Consortium, Daniele M. Trucchi and Alessandro Bellucci presented an overview of the project during the TPV 15 conference (Madrid, 1-3 October 2024) and GiTe 2025 (Roma, 11-12 February 2025). SInce the project is at the early stage of development, the presentations focused on describing objectives and stratetegies of implementation. The audience appreciated the effort in the BLAZETEC theconology challenge and in the concept of hybrid solid-state converters for thermal batteries.

On January 30th at 11:00, the coordinator of the project Daniele M. Trucchi has been involved in the discussion about the challenges that CSP (High-Temperature Concentrated Solar Power) technologies currently face for energy applications.

The event was organized in collaboration with a consortium of European projects focused on this topic and it has been a fantastic opportunity to learn from the top European experts who are driving innovation in this field. Kick-off meeting

Kick-off meeting

Formally started on July 1, 2024, the Horizon Europe project “BREAKTHROUGHS IN THERMAL BATTERIES THROUGH ZERO-EMISSION HIGH-TEMPERATURE STATIC THERMAL-TO-ELECTRIC CONVERTERS” - BLAZETEC was officially launched with the Kick-off Meeting held in Rome-Montelibretti on July 4-5, 2024.

The primary goal is to validate two TRL 5 pilot plants of thermal batteries based on hybrid thermionic systems (thermionic-photovoltaic and thermionic-thermoelectric) for the storage and efficient management of thermal energy produced with concentrated solar radiation and electricity generated from renewable sources. BLAZETEC aims to develop innovative thermal batteries to increase the availability of renewable energy in future power grids.

The project, funded under Call HORIZON-CL5-2023-D3-03-01 - Topic: “Increasing the efficiency of innovative static energy conversion devices for electricity and heat/cold generation”, is coordinated by CNR-ISM with Daniele M. Trucchi as the lead. With a total budget of €3 million (including €717k for CNR-ISM), 5 Work Packages (4 R&D, 1 management), and a duration of 42 months, the project involves a consortium of 5 beneficiaries:

CNR - Istituto di Struttura della Materia
    Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spagna)
    RGS Development (Pasi Bassi)
    Ionvac Process srl (Italia)
    The Cyprus Insitute (Cipro)

and 2 associated partners:

    CSEM (Switzerland)
    Termophoton (Spain).

During the kick-off meeting held on July 4-5, 2024, the partners met to share their expertise and knowledge to be applied within the project framework and to plan the activities for the next six months.

Throughout the meeting, partners had the opportunity to visit the DiaTHEMA Lab at the CNR-ISM site in Montelibretti and enjoy a social dinner featuring Roman cuisine.
